I don't want the lights to go out

I don't want the lights to go out,

I just want the theater to be empty.

On the bus, I watch the back of a head,

a stranger’s hair messy from a nap,

and I think about being the air in the tire.

Not the rubber, not the road,

just the pressure that keeps it round.

I pull my grey hoodie tight,

tugging the strings until my jaw is gone,

until I’m just a shape in a seat

that nobody has to greet.

Tugging the hoodie strings until your jaw is gone is so real.

The messy hair on the bus is a good detail.

the empty theater thing is a cool thought.

Thanks, it’s a weird feeling to try and explain
