The Click-Through

My card, it stuttered.

Caught me mid-step, pinned

between the metal arms.

Just a second, maybe two,

but it felt like hours,

the impatient clicks behind me,

the cold steel against my chest.

Another cog in the machine,

failing to turn, just stuck,

listening to the frustrated breath

of the line forming. Felt like

the whole damn week.
