Aftershiver

The phone clicked, the conversation done.

I felt calm, or thought I did, inside.

But then my hands began to run

a tremor, with nothing left to hide.

Just a faint shake, a subtle quake,

my fingers twitching on the cool machine.

My body had its own small, private ache,

a memory of the sharp words, still keen.

It wasn't fear, or anger, just a release,

a fizzing in the blood, an undone knot.

My body spoke when my mind found peace,

a nervous, involuntary, honest blot.
