Too White

They put it up quick,

overnight, almost.

Across the property line,

where the wild roses

used to spill over.

Now, a vinyl fence.

So white it almost hums,

a blinding stripe

against the tangled green

that still fights

on my side.

Too straight. Too clean.

It says, this far.

And nothing more.

Just a stark, unyielding claim,

where once there was just

a general understanding.
