Unthinking

I saw the email forwarded to me.

The whole chain was there, and I could see

everyone's name in the CC line.

Everyone but mine.


Not on purpose. That's what kills it.

She just didn't think. I should have built it

into my expectations by now—

I'm the person you forget somehow.


I read the emails over.

Studied the list like I was a solver

of some puzzle that would explain

why I was left out of the chain.


What would I even say?

You forgot me? You looked away?

Better to just read it

and accept it.
