Six in the morning nobody there

Six in the morning, nobody there.

I walked the hallway like I owned it,

but it didn't feel like the same hallway.

The linoleum was different—

colder, more reflective.

The lights looked harder.

All the closed doors made a kind of wall.

No one moving behind them.

No sound except my footsteps

and the hum of something in the distance.

It was like the building had changed

when no one was looking.

Like I was walking through a place

that only exists before people arrive.

By the time anyone else showed up,

the hallway was normal again.

But I knew the truth about it now.
