Aerobic

The light turned yellow and I decided to run,

my boots heavy and flat against the street.

I haven't moved this fast since I was young,

and the air in my lungs turned into a sheet

of something sharp and thin as a wire.

Then the copper hit, the taste of a penny

held under the tongue, a small internal fire

that says I haven't been keeping up with many.
