One Strand

A stoplight caught it, in the glass,

a silver needle, sharp and clear.

Against the dark, a sudden pass,

a tiny flag, announcing fear,

or something like it. Not quite dread,

but quiet shock, a small surprise.

One single thread upon my head,

reflecting back indifferent skies.

I plucked it out, a silly thing,

this lone rebellion, bright and stark.

But still, the moment made me sting,

a pinpoint memory, a tiny mark.
