Too much water

The email flashed: 'Overdue.'

The numbers swam, a rising tide.

Then the shower, heavy, new,

the spray hit hard, nowhere to hide.

My mouth gasped, air, a sudden need.

The water pressed against my face.

A real thing, this, a frantic deed,

to find a breath in this closed space.

The bill, the spray, the growing dread.

My chest felt tight, a silent plea.

Too much to hold inside my head,

too much, just washing over me.
