Unclaimed Signal

The siren broke—no rush, no crash,

but like a voice that forgot its words.

Wet streets caught red and blue

in splintered pools.

It bent low, something human, raw—

a call stretched thin, pulled loose by rain.

I pressed my ear to the glass,

but the sound slipped under the weight of night,

an orphan screaming for a place.

Outside, puddles swallowed the cry,

and the city turned its face away.
