Current Doesn't Always Flow

I press the charger in and wait for light,

but this dead socket swallows all my need.

The outlet offers nothing but its blight,

this hollow place that won't fulfill my deed.

I test it with my nail, as if my skin

could sense what broke it, make it start to wake.

The dust around the plate, the mess within,

tells me this room will only ever take.

I move to find another, then another,

each one refusing what I'm desperate for.

This borrowed room, like no other,

won't charge my phone or do much more.

I'm standing here with batteries that fail,

learning this place has nothing left to give.
