I Looked Up the Flights

The email came forwarded,

two layers of other people's excitement

already on it.

The wedding's in April.

I know the venue—I've walked past it,

years ago, on a night when I was someone

who thought the city might work out.

I looked up flights.

Got through all the way to the seat diagram,

those pale gray rectangles,

the ones already taken darker.

I closed the tab.

The airport code stayed in the search bar.

I didn't delete it.

I opened a new tab over it

and left it there, underneath,

three letters that still know

where I left them.

The RSVP deadline is tonight.
