The Tab I Closed

He posted something about gratitude,

a quote about the life you choose.

I knew the name. The attitude

of sixth grade came back. The bruise

of a Tuesday afternoon,

the cafeteria, a thing I said

to get a laugh. The room

went quiet. He cried. I stayed instead

of stopping it. I went back to my food.

I found his profile. Scrolled his kids,

his yard, his optimistic mood

about everything. I did

nothing. Closed the tab.

The screen went dark. I sat.

Made dinner. Watched TV. The drab

Tuesday going on. Like that.
