Thirty Days Prior

The flyer said: thirty days, written notice,

certified mail to the address on file.

It said you have the right to dispute this.

It said keep a copy. It said meanwhile—

I'd already signed. Already mailed it back.

Two hundred more a month beginning fall.

The napkin has the math in pencil circles,

sitting next to nothing useful at all.

The flyer's on the counter by the dish rack,

arrived the week after I signed.

I had the right. I had thirty days.

Right on time.
