Muffle

Woke up to it, a lack of sound.

Not just quiet, but a kind of deep

insulation. The window

blurred, a haze of streetlight.

Slow, fat flakes dropping

onto the already heavy white.

Each one, another small absorber,

deadening the world further.

The usual street drone gone, swallowed.

Even my own breath felt loud.

Just the soft, insistent descent.

A stillness that presses in.
