Adhesion

The heel came off in the driveway,

leaving the inner foam exposed like a tooth.

I tried to pin it back with a drop of clear heat,

but the ceramic just spit it back out.

Now my thumb is welded to the index,

a hard, white ridge of plastic skin

tightening as it dries.

I’m waiting for the lemon oil to bite,

staring at the gap I couldn't close.
