The Quiet Click

They said the words, the same old twist.

Another promise, neatly missed.

My hands stayed flat, upon my knee.

No sudden reach, no urgency.

I watched the shrug, the familiar sigh.

No argument, no reason why.

Just a small nod, a single blink.

Let it all sink.

No grand explosion, no bitter fight.

Just something quiet, took its flight.

A tiny click, a lock released.

The helping hand, at last, had ceased.
