The Last Grip

On the quiet wall

a peg kept its mouth ajar—

as if the coat might return.

Its jaw weakened grip,

Loose,

gnawed by time,

fibres still caught on its teeth.

Still it hangs—

Edged out of the line,

Too rough

for the new measure.
