A man in expensive running gear

A man in expensive running gear

kept his eyes on the digital watch on his wrist.

He didn’t see the architecture here

or the way the damp turrets began to twist.

He put a heavy, ribbed sneaker sole

right through the middle of the keep.

He left a deep and jagged hole

while the ocean began its rhythmic creep.

The kid just looks at the plastic spade

lying face down in the ruins and the grit.

It takes a long time for a thing to be made

and only a second to step on it.
