Plural Pronouns

I told the guys at the office we went to the show,

that the theater was packed and the lights were low.

I used the word 'we' until it felt true,

masking the seat that was empty of you.

I found the stub in my pocket just now,

a single admission I didn't allow

the others to see when I boasted of plans,

with salt from the popcorn still dry on my hands.

One medium soda, one plastic straw,

the loneliest matinee I ever saw.

I’m getting too good at the half-baked lie,

of building a crowd out of thin, quiet sky.

#deception #loneliness
