Across and Down

Seven letters for a mistake you can’t fix.

I wrote 'remorse' but the 'm' was a lie.

The newspaper is damp from the coffee ring,

and I can’t remember why I even had to try.

I pressed the ballpoint so hard into the grid

that I tore a hole right through 'eternity.'

Now there’s just a white gap in the center

where a better version of me used to be.

It’s Tuesday's puzzle, but it feels like a month.

I’ve left the clues hanging like unwashed clothes.

I don’t know the name of the river in France,

and I’m tired of pretending that anyone knows.
