The bill arrived in a windowed envelope

The bill arrived in a windowed envelope,

a sharp number that says I’m losing heat.

I’m on my knees with a tube of silicone,

squeezing a white line across the floorboards.

It sticks to my knuckles, a thick, sour paste.

I smooth it down but it lumps like a scar,

an ugly repair for a draft I can’t stop,

trying to hold the winter where it belongs.
