The phone lies heavy in my palm

The phone lies heavy in my palm,

screen dark, a quiet stone.

I hover over it, thumb poised,

waiting for a vibration, a light,

a word, or just a space

filled with something more than silence.

Minutes drag like thick syrup,

pressing down with no reply,

a weight that pulls my breath tight,

tethered to a promise never sent.
