I sat down and felt it give—

I sat down and felt it give—

a chair unraveling under weight,

wicker splintering like brittle bones.

Frayed strands tangled in my fingers,

a web of half-remembered afternoons,

broken promises folded in tight knots.

The collapse was quiet,

a sudden crack that echoed

in the stillness of the room.

I gather the scattered pieces,

threads spilling secrets on the floor,

something fragile slipping away

without a sound to stop it.
