Coffee mug slips

Coffee mug slips

from my left hand’s loose clutch,

a slow-motion surrender.

Right hand reaches, sure,

a partner stepping in, saving the spill.

Left hand, the awkward guest,

stiff fingers fumbling,

a tremor in a handshake.

It’s the hand that forgets

how to hold on tight,

half-present in the daily grind,

a clumsy shadow.

I try to make peace with the weak grip—

a quiet apology

written in half-hearted grasps.
