Metal Loop

A paperclip bent like a lazy spiral,

caught in the afternoon sun’s glare.

It rolled out of a drawer’s chaos,

among crumpled receipts and forgotten notes.

One loop twisted against another,

never quite holding what it’s meant to.

I pick it up, metal cold and thin,

something too small to fix the pile,

but still trying.

A silent promise in a shape too weak,

barely holding papers,

yet still clinging to some order,

a stubborn little loop,

metal bending to stay together,

though it might fall apart.
