The Sound of Departure

The click of the latch, a final sigh,

trailing footsteps, as she waves goodbye.

Light slips through the crack left ajar,

a ghost of her laughter, now echoing far.

I sit in the silence, this room grown wide,

wondering how she’ll dance with the tide.

Memories spiral like dust in the beam,

a door that just closed, a heart in between.
