Midnight Warning

3 AM, a shrill cry breaks the night,

a smoke alarm blinking with frantic light.

A heart racing, tangled in dreams,

reminders of all the alarmed themes.

I sit up straight, pulse like a drum,

thinking of all the times I've succumbed.

To the sirens that call, the fears we ignore,

how life’s little signals can still leave us sore.
