Goodbyes

The sky turned gray, it felt like the world paused,

a single black umbrella, a chill in my jaws.

I stood in the corner, faces blurred and tight,

underneath the surface, a sense of lost light.

A man spoke softly, the stories felt old,

every memory shared, a life to unfold.

I looked at the flowers, their colors subdued,

a chorus of goodbyes draped over the mood.

Outside, raindrops pooled in cracks in the ground,

a strange kind of silence, deep, heavy, profound,

we gathered like shadows, yet felt so alone,

learning what it means to let someone go home.
