Heavy Sleep

Her breath a small warmth

against my neck,

a steady puff. I don't dare check

the time. My arm,

a dead weight too,

beneath her head,

a sleepy hue.

Her hair, a tangle,

soft and fine,

a silent, heavy,

sweet design.

My shoulder aches,

my neck goes stiff,

a gentle burden,

just a whiff

of something sacred,

small and deep.

This little body,

fast asleep.

I hold it all,

the world outside

can just melt down.

I'm here, inside.
