Just a Flicker

The dark outside, a quiet pane,

my face reflected, back again.

A shift, a breath, not mine, I swear,

a shadow falling, not quite there.

My skin just crawls, a sudden cold,

a story that my nerves are told.

I turn my head, so sharp and fast,

the feeling lingers, meant to last.

No one. Just the lamp's low glow.

But something saw me, I still know.

The window holds that empty stare,

a presence hanging in the air.
