Unsayed Farewell

As silence smothered the last goodbye,

the air was thick with things I wouldn’t try.

Beside the casket, my heart ached to speak,

but words slipped away, so painful, so weak.

Dust settled deep on memories we made,

a closed book rests, where shadows invade.

If only I'd whispered the truth of my heart,

the love left behind, my part torn apart.
