Flickering Light

The storm struck sudden, as if to break

my thoughts like branches snapped, and I was left

with a sputtering beam, the wall dancing

in dim, quick bursts.

Dust motes rising like regrets, folded tight

into corners where shadows unfurl, waiting,

how long can this flickering hold the night,

just one more flash, please, I can’t lose you yet.
