Shattered Fragments

I let it fall, the mug a gleeful crash,

the sound like laughter—delighted, wild—

then sharp shards caught light, laughing back, but

I was left behind, alone with that regret.

Fragments scattered on the tile like pieces

of a heart, bruised under foot, each glint

a reminder, a moment I thought I owned,

yet lost myself in a cruel, brief release.
