Lessons Unlearned

In the news, a face, familiar but far,

each headline a reminder of who we once are.

Regrets whispered soft, like dust on a shelf,

a lesson forgotten, the art of myself.

I overheard laughter, sweet tales left unsaid,

and gathered my courage, to speak to the dead.

But words never formed, they crumbled and bled,

a truth I embraced but left buried instead.
