Playing the Fool

I mopped the floor, lost in thought,

pretending ignorance while the world spun around,

a fact I knew, but feigned to dismiss,

hiding my knowledge, a scar wrapped tight.

When conversation turned, I smiled,

my heart thumping like a war drum,

and all I wanted was to speak—

yet silence pressed heavy like wet winter clothes.
