Voicemail, Unplayed

My phone lit up, a cruel blue

'Storage full.' I scrolled,

deleting old photos of meals I forgot.

Then I saw it.

Your name.

The date, years back.

And under it, small, exact: 0:27.

I didn't play it.

Didn't need to hear the crackle

of your voice, or the careful words

you left that day,

a small gift, a time capsule of you.

It's still there.

Taking up space.

A piece of data,

heavy as a stone.

Unplayed.
