Just Stopped

A stutter first, a cough,

a kind of choke.

The engine seized,

the silence it then spoke.

Not a slow fade,

no warning sign or plea.

Just cut itself,

from purpose, suddenly.

Then nothing. Just

the dashboard's angry glow.

Red, orange points,

a furious, quick show

of lights on dark.

No hum, no thrum,

just the sound of dusk.

And the raw, cold air,

a kind of empty husk.

Of going somewhere.

Now, only here.

And the quiet, waiting fear.

#existential dread
