July, Faded

In the raincoat,

back of the closet,

a crumpled paper boat.

Two coffees,

one scone.

The ink, a gray ghost,

the numbers gone.

But the date,

it held its shape:

July 14th.

The day we said,

"let's take a break."

Just two words,

light, like a feather.

Now this paper,

it weighs more.

A whole summer

folded into a pocket,

and left for dead.
