The rental car a strange smell

The rental car, a strange smell,

that manufactured new.

I pulled the belt, it felt so thin,

then clicked it, through and through.

The blunt, silver tongue slid home,

a sound too loud, it seemed.

Like a promise, solid bone,

or a future, unredeemed.

It cinched across my chest, so tight,

the rough, black fabric there.

Just this small, metallic bite,

held me to the air.

And the quiet hum.
