Inverse

The kitchen light is a harsh, yellow glare,

showing the patches of thinning gray hair.

He handed the jar over, silent and slow,

his grip on the lid having nowhere to go.

The vacuum seal popped with a hollow, sharp sound,

while his shadow looked smaller there on the ground.

His wrist is a marble, a bone beneath skin,

marking the place where the shrinking set in.
