The Gap in the Teeth

He used a word that felt like a stone,

to describe how the cedar was brittle and lone.

The grain went crooked, the knot was a knot,

of a language I've mostly or completely forgot.

There is no word for the way that I feel

for the house that they leveled with iron and steel.

I go to the back gate and pull on the latch,

it clicks in the wood but it never will catch.
