The cable shudders and the numbers blink.
A sudden dark, then orange light returns.
I’m close enough to smell his coffee drink,
to feel the way his heavy breathing burns.
The wool of someone’s sleeve is on my wrist.
A stranger’s neck is damp and pulsing slow.
The red “4” flickers through the humid mist.
We’re stuck inside the only world we know.
