Overnight

The red bar crawls across the glass,

reporting on the rising silt

and cars submerged up to the roof.

I haven’t moved. My legs are gone,

just a dull, heavy prickling

pinned beneath my own weight.

The screen flickers its cold blue

into the hollows of my face.

My eyes are dry as salt.

I forget to blink until the sting

forces a tear that doesn't mean a thing.
