The rain came down a deluge and rush

The rain came down, a deluge and rush,

while we found refuge, no need for a hush,

our words fell like drops, heavy and real,

while my heart struggled, caught in the reel.

You spoke of your grief, a weight far too deep,

a current that pulls, a tide that won’t sleep,

I wanted to reach, to pull you to shore,

but the waves of despair kept crashing once more.

The water formed pools at our feet, murky, cold,

like secrets unsaid, too painful, too bold,

I held out my hand, but what could I do,

when drowning feels like a thing meant for two?
