A small tag swings from the collar worn and scratched

A small tag swings from the collar, worn and scratched,

a name inscribed lightly, the bond tightly matched.

My neighbor’s dog wanders, with joy in each stride,

a playful reminder of the love that resides.

His tail wags like laughter, a heartbeat of cheer,

with each little bark, he draws close and near.

The dog tag glints brightly, a story it tells,

of walks in the park and of belly rub spells.

In this simple exchange, with no words to speak,

we share a connection that feels truly unique.

As the shadows grow longer, I cherish this thread—

that names can carry warmth long after they’ve fled.
