Humanity in the Ordinary

In the aisle of the store, I saw you stumble,

a jar of sauce held like a weight on your brow,

your smile cracked open a wall I once built,

not a hero, just flesh, with a furrowed brow.

You fought against lids like we fight our own fears,

clutching at life’s jars, so stubborn, so tight,

I wished for a moment you’d soar like you did,

when the world felt less heavy, and fate seemed so light.
