Sounds of Summer

From the porch, I can hear it, a bounce like a heartbeat,

a rhythm of laughter, the summer retreat.

Kids play on the pavement, a chorus of cheer,

a distant thud echoing, summer’s sweet sphere.

The hollow thud against asphalt, like ghosts of the past,

reminds me of afternoons, fleeting yet vast.

Joy ricocheting off sidewalks, it dances and flies,

that sound of the game, where innocence lies.
