The Cost of Letting Go

An old photograph, edges frayed,

captures the laughter, the joy we laid,

innocent smiles, two hearts intertwined,

yet time has reshaped what we once defined.

Your story of healing opened the door,

invited me back to a friendship once more,

but forgiveness is heavy, and the weight it can bear

can leave scars that linger, an ache in the air.

I sift through the memories, crumpled and torn,

like a paper boat, too weary, too worn,

what I gain in release, I might lose in the end,

yet here I am standing, unsure of the bend.
