Wishes Left Behind

Beneath the glimmer of sunlit sheen,

coins lie like secrets, in watery green.

Two children argue, their voices collide,

each wish more urgent, with hearts open wide.

I see their hopes flicker, the ripples that chase

a dance of desire across smooth, clear space.

What dreams do they toss in, what futures they crave,

as I watch from the sidelines, a silent enclave?

The fountain sings softly, a gentle refrain,

while wishes drift down like the patter of rain.

I wonder what treasures, unspoken, remain,

in the depths of that water, a shimmer of pain.
